Useful Information

Passport

We cannot stress enough that a valid passport is the only form of ID that we will accept as proof of ID. Applicants who present without a valid passport will NOT be able to have their medical. They shall be required to reschedule another appointment and pay again for the full cost of the medical.

EU Licence holders seeking a uK Licence

Applicants who hold an EASA licence and medical certificate issued by a Member State which is not the UK, and who are seeking an EASA class 1 medical certificate for the very first time MUST first change their State of Licence Issue (SOLI) to the UK before approaching us for an initial class 1 medical.

Please visit the CAA webpage for full details: Transferring to the UK from another EASA state.

Current or past Medical History

Please bring medical reports in respect of any significant current or past medical history.

Further Reports: Following your assessment, we may request reports from your treating doctor(s) or refer you to an independent doctor where further information is required in order to meet UK or EASA requirements for certification. Please see UK CAA Medical Standards

Eye Testing Requirements

Eye Surgery: Applicants who have had LASIK or other refractive procedures must provide a report from the centre that carried out the surgery. Details should include dates and type of surgery performed, pre-operative refraction and details of any complications. Please see UK CAA Medical Standards

Contact Lens Wearers: Applicants who wear contact lenses can expect to be examined without wearing their contact lenses. They should therefore bring a spare pair along with their contact lens solutions.

Pupillary Dilation: As part of the detailed eye examination, special eye drops to open the pupils may be used. This allows the examiner to get a better view of the whole eye. The effects can last for a few hours for some people causing temporary glare and/or blurred vision. If you have driven to us, you should only drive after your vision has returned to normal.

Colour Vision Testing: An applicant for an initial class 1 certificate who fails the standard colour vision test shall be required to undergo a CAD colour vision test at additional expense (see fees). Applicants for an initial class 3 certificate are required to undergo CAD testing as a matter of routine and this is already included in the cost of the medical.

What to wear For the Examination

Sports Bra and Shorts for Females; Boxer Shorts for Males: Applicants will be required to remove their clothes for part of the examination. We therefore recommend that female applicants wear a sports bra and shorts underneath their clothing, and males wear boxer shorts underneath their clothing.
