EASA / EU MEDICALS AT AEROMEDICAL CONSULTING UK

Aeromedical Consulting UK has been approved and authorised by Austro Control to undertake all classes of EASA medicals now that the UK is no longer an EASA Member State. From 1 January 2021, UK-certificated AMEs must be approved and authorised by an EASA Member State to be able to perform EASA/EU medicals.

In keeping with our status as the premier Aeromedical Centre and provider of aeromedical services, we have received such approval and authorisation.

aPPROVED AND AUTHORISED BY AUSTRO CONTROL

This means whether it is an Austrian, IAA, Maltese or indeed any other EASA medical you require, we can do it for you. Please book in the normal way, ensuring you complete the Austro Control application form that is available on the website and on the booking page.

If you are the current holder of a medical certificate with licence / certificate number from an EASA Member State (not the UK), for example Austria, Ireland or Malta, you can apply for a renewal or revalidation in the usual way.

If assessed as fit, you will be issued with an EASA / EU medical certificate on Austro Control certificate paper stating your Licensing Authority and licence / certificate number. We will then send your complete file, including a copy of your medical certificate to your Licensing Authority.

E.g. A fit IAA licence holder shall be issued a medical certificate on Austro Control paper with the Licensing Authority stating Ireland, and the complete file shall be forwarded to the IAA for their records.

Austro Control procedures differ from UK CAA procedures. For example, a mental health questionnaire must be completed at the time of the medical. The management of abnormal ECGs is less reliant on AME judgement with regards to continuing certification whilst the abnormality is investigated. There are no alternate means of compliance (Alt MOCs) acceptable to Austro Control.

SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

The information below is based on our understanding of the rules surrounding EASA / EU Medicals post-Brexit. we cannot be 100% certain of the exact application of the processes and procedures given the uK has only just completed the transition period. we therefore urge you to check your requirements with austro Control or your State of licence issue, if you are unclear.

If you currently hold a medical certificate with a UK CAA licence number (i.e. with the UK as the Licensing Authority) and wish to obtain an EASA / EU medical, you will need to undergo an initial EASA medical at our Birmingham location.  This is because the UK is no longer an EASA Member State and is a separate legal entity.

The above applies vice versa, in the situation where an EASA / EU certificate holder with an EASA / EU licence number (i.e. with an EASA Member State as the Licensing Authority) wishes to obtain a UK medical with a UK licence number.  In such a case a UK initial examination will need to be booked at our Birmingham Location.

If you had already undergone a State Of Licence Issue (SOLI) transfer from the UK to an EASA Member State but are still awaiting the issue of your new EASA / EU licence number, we can revalidate or renew your medical (without the need for an initial medical), but we will have to send the paperwork to your new Licensing Authority for them to issue your medical certificate with its new EASA / EU certificate number.
